Dr. Sunny Kang (Visa) will be addressing “Algorithmic Accountability in Public Administration: The GDPR Paradox”. Here is her bio:
Dr. Sunny Kang is Global Privacy Counsel at Visa. Dr. Kang specializes in comparative privacy laws in the US and EU. Additionally, she is dedicated to clarifying and enforcing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to raise online privacy standards and algorithmic accountability. Dr. Kang’s educational background includes an LLB from University College London, an LLM specializing in Intellectual Property and Technology from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and a JSM focused on Transatlantic Data Protection Laws from Stanford Law School. Dr. Kang is the former International Consumer Counsel to the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). There she counselled on US and EU data protection frameworks and regulatory affairs on consumer privacy. Dr. Kang also worked as Senior Privacy Counsel, Head of Policy at Inpher, Inc. where she was the lead counsel on global privacy and AI governance. In that role she submitted briefs to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), House Financial Services Committee, Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on data privacy and AI.
