Oxford Administrative Law Workshop 2026
A note from Adam Perry and Angelo Ryu
Administrative law is moving quickly, with courts, regulators, and automated systems reshaping how power is used and reviewed. The Oxford Administrative Law Workshop brings together scholars working on English administrative law and closely related fields for two days of discussion at Brasenose College.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will focus on approximately six pre‑circulated works‑in‑progress. The workshop is intentionally small and collegial. The aim is to help scholars improve their work through rigorous yet friendly conversation. Presenters will include Janina Boughey (UNSW), Robert Thomas (Manchester), Joe Tomlinson (King’s College London), and Hanna Wilberg (Auckland). Additional papers will be selected through a call for abstracts (below).

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The Oxford Administrative Law Workshop invites submissions of abstracts for papers either about English administrative law or of clear relevance to English administrative law scholarship. Accepted papers would be presented at an in-person workshop on 16-17 April 2026 at Brasenose College, Oxford.
We welcome submissions along doctrinal, theoretical, comparative, or empirical dimensions of administrative law. Topics may include, but are not limited to the grounds and procedure of judicial review, regulatory governance, administrative constitutionalism, automated decision-making, procedural fairness, and the relationship between administrative law and democracy. Comparative work is welcome where it engages substantially with English administrative law or offers insights relevant to its development.
Approximately six papers will be presented at the workshop. Each paper will receive substantial discussion time, with detailed feedback from workshop participants in a collegial setting designed to advance works in progress. Limited financial support for travel and accommodation may be available for those who do not have another source of funding.
Closing Date for Submissions: 20 December 2025. Decisions will be communicated within two weeks of the deadline.
Submission Details: Please email submissions by the closing date to adam.perry@law.ox.ac.uk. Abstracts should be 1000-1200 words and focus on articulating the paper’s argument and analysis. Abstracts should be fully anonymized to allow for blind review. Please include a separate cover sheet with your name, institutional affiliation, and contact details. Only one submission per author will be considered. Full papers must be completed and circulated three weeks before the workshop to allow participants time to prepare substantive feedback.
About the Workshop: The Oxford Administrative Law Workshop aims to foster rigorous exchange among scholars working at the forefront of administrative law. The workshop is convened by Adam Perry, Associate Professor, and Angelo Ryu, DPhil candidate, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. Please direct any enquiries to adam.perry@law.ox.ac.uk.
